Summer Holidays

What do you do for holidays when you work in the America’s Cup? Go sailing! Good times were had by all on our cruise around the Balearic Islands of Ibiza and Formentera. 11 amici and 2 boats…match-racing, sun-bathing, rioja, cerveza, singing, dancing and a leg of jamon! We spent 10 days navigating around the sunny island shores under the hot August sun. The water was crystal clear and a warm turquoise blue…all the better to see the “Jellyfish Infestation of 2006.”
We started from Alicante with 5 trolleys of groceries (total: 700 euros…the receipt was so long it could have been a scarf!), a 4 hour argument with the charter agency, and a 16 hour transfer to Ibiza in 5 knots of wind and swell. From there, no where to go but up! Memorable moments included a beach soccer tournament (we won!), apperitivi with 1000 other Italians at the BigSurLife, a chase-boat chase, nights out in Eivizza city and Sant Antoni, shopping at the hippy market (this was super important for the girls – the boys limited us to just one day), 60 euro/kg fish and 9 euro/bottle water at a beachside restaurant in Formentera, an unexpected storm, and the arrival of our new Dufour 38 with the wrapping still over the seats.
